Cars X Girl

Playing with Pictures

My husband and I have made good enough friends that each weekend it seems we’ll be going down to hang out and shake our heads at the silly kids and their even worse off cars. Being around cars and car people makes me happy, so I’m glad we actually go and hang out with some people on a more regular basis than the once-a-month autocrosses we usually go to, or the once monthly Miata club meetings or events.

Fun, and cheap!

It’s rather entertaining, because we usually hang out with the better cars. Recently, we got one of our friends and his S2000 to come out, and got to meet another guy with an S2000 he just picked up. Good find, too: the one he got has a Toda header, the APR CF side mirrors and a rather nice clutch set-up for an AP2, it’s a lot heavier than our AP1′s stock clutch, plus some other goodies.

Some rare good stuff.

It was rather funny watching a couple of our other friends fawn over the Toda header. I kinda shrugged at it, because my husband had once talked of getting the same header for our own S2000, so the four figure price tag wasn’t anything new to me. (It’s somewhere in the ~$1700 price range, depending on your exact source I guess.) When I asked about it, they just said it was because it’s a serious part, and you don’t see too much serious stuff around here. Wha?! I know it’s here, you just have to know what you’re looking for… There are true enthusiasts everywhere, but not everyone can spot it.

And then there was the orange Lamborghini Murcielago that drove through. You know that was totally just to throw the money around… But I was happy to see a Murcielago and not another Gallardo, though I’m a fan of neither. Don’t really like the Reventon either, I’m a fan of the Countach and the Miura myself. But damn… Did that engine purr! It was great to hear a Lambo engine when I haven’t heard one in so long.

Opportunity for practice.

Anyhow, I sometimes get bored, usually when I’m rather tired and not as into the conversations as I am at other times. My camera keeps me company then, as well as pretty occupied… Even if people give me kinda weird looks sometimes. Can’t help it, I like snapping pictures! If I want to be a good photographer someday, I have to get my practice in somehow, right? Not like I’m doing anything better at these!

So I figured I’d share some snaps I’ve taken when we’ve gone to hang out. Please, let me know what you think, whether good or bad! (Even more photos of mine can be found on my Flickr, if you like what you see or want to see more.)

Not the best, but most of my pics turned out blurry. Note the turbo Civic and 3000 GT VR4.

Friend's S2000, cut stock hood and a nice grill were new touches from the last time I saw her.

Meg

In 2007, Meg began learning about cars. Two years later, she had a very modified '97 Miata and a '90 240SX project car, as well as the Rookie of the Year autocross title. Life now completely revolves around cars and she wouldn't have it any other way. CarsxGirl is her way to encourage others to get into racing (it's not horribly expensive!), to document & share her car builds, an outlet to share & improve her automotive photography skills and to show that real car girls do exist!
