The Year of Extravagant Birthdays

October 21st, 2009 · 6 Comments · My Cars, Photos, Random

Maybe not by some people’s standards, but this was definitely a crazy birthday year for my husband and me.

My birthday

My own birthday was back in June, and I turned the revered 21 this year. Go me? For dinner, we went to a nice sushi bar and I got to try sake for the first time… And learned that it really isn’t as good as regular wine. (Maybe I just need to have it more often?)

I got my awesome little Canon point and shoot camera for my birthday from my family, thanks Mom!! It’s what’s been taking most of the awesome-ish pictures for the blog here. It goes everywhere with me, since I never know when something cool’s going to show up that I feel like snapping.

Anyhow, my husband totally outdid himself. Kinda. I still don’t know whether I should feel happy about it or just puzzle over how he could ever outdo this whole thing…

He bought me a car.

Well, not really. He let me buy a car. My 240SX to be exact. She was deemed my “early birthday present,” brought home a mere six days before my birthday.

To celebrate, we ended up doing a cute little photo-shoot on my birthday. She’s been a blessing ever since, and I can’t imagine how I would have ever gotten on without her now!

Quite the birthday present, huh?

The gift that keeps getting better and better.

His birthday

Funny enough, his birthday still hasn’t happened yet, as it’s November 13th. I trumped his early present with my own early present — just about a month early, to be exact.

Though not as big or as expensive as a car, I bought him something else that most women don’t buy their guys for presents — a new set of wheels.

Say hello to our bargain set of 17″ silver Enkei RPF1′s, worn by our S2000. Can you believe that I only shelled out $500 for these pretties? With center caps and tires, too — Kumho Ecsta ASX’s. (Also worn by the 240SX, the Miata currently has AST’s and the S2000 was using SPT’s before this.)

It saved me a lot of worry when these came up for sale, since I never know what to get him. I have ordered him one other tiny, car-related bit, but that he’s gonna have to wait until his actual birthday for. ;)

We now joke, though, that we’ve bought each other the same set of rims… He bought me the RPF1′s for the Miata almost a year ago, and now he’s got his own set from me. He just paid twice as much for mine as I did for his, score for me!

Her pretty new wheels! (They were a crazy good deal.)

Close up of one of the wheels. The blue valve stem covers came with also. He's looking into new lug nuts as well.

Now I can’t wait until Christmas! :D (Half joking, but we’ll see… One never can be sure of anything with us.)

Meg

In 2007, Meg began learning about cars. Two years later, she had a very modified '97 Miata and a '90 240SX project car, as well as the Rookie of the Year autocross title. Life now completely revolves around cars and she wouldn't have it any other way. CarsxGirl is her way to encourage others to get into racing (it's not horribly expensive!), to document & share her car builds, an outlet to share & improve her automotive photography skills and to show that real car girls do exist!

That is a steal! Congrats on finding him an awesome present, I’m sure he’ll love it.

He better, he picked it out LOL. ;)

Basically, a friend told him about them, then he told me. I asked if he’d like them for his birthday (since I’d be providing the funds anyhow) as I never know what to get him. He said sure, so we went to pick them up. They’ve been on the car ever since, honestly, and the silver on silver is growing on me. It’s kinda fun to buy someone something you sort of benefit from too. :P (Now, the other thing I got him is another story… But he should like this thing too. I need to remember that I know him a lot better than I think I do sometimes!)

A couple that encourages car spending is a couple that stays together.

It’s always nice to share priorities. :) Though, he does get tired of putting up with the, “I wish I had a girl like yours,” type of comments… Can’t blame him, I know I’d get annoyed if I heard that all the time.

You guys gave each other awesome presents. You got a car and he got rims!! RPF01s for that price is a steal.

Believe me, I nearly didn’t believe him when he told me about it. We missed out on a fairly good deal on a front bumper and some Corbeau seats earlier this year because I wasn’t sure about the stuff, so I vowed to not miss another good deal when it came up. (These wheels, plus the gold ones for our 240SX and the car herself have all been great snags this year!)
