Cars X Girl

This *was* for entertainment, right?

March 30th, 2010 · 14 Comments · Rant

Have you ever seen MTV’s documentary series True Life?

If yes, have you ever seen the, “I’m a Street Racer” episode?

It’s classic, I tell you. Classic. And really old, but that’s not the point.

Pure Entertainment

I have to say, the episode is pure entertainment. It’s absolutely hilarious! If you’ve got 42 minutes and nothing better to do, or are curious, you can watch the whole thing here. It’s just really crappy quality… My apologies.

My Commentary

Here’s the fun part for me, hahaha. Why I felt compelled to do this, I’m not sure… But here are my collective thoughts on the whole thing.

  1. LS/VTEC motor = ugh. Worst. Idea. Ever. Just get a B18 already, sheesh… (Edit: This isn’t entirely a bad thing to do, as long as you know how to do it properly. For the guy in this case, it certainly was a bad idea because I’m quite sure he had NO clue what he was doing.)
  2. The dude’s Integra. Like wow, you did a RHD swap over…. And kept the ugly ass USDM front end. The JDM teggy looks a MILLION times better, but no. You pretended to be Japanese…
  3. He gets his in the ending clip of him “professionally racing.” Like dude, the track was on your left…. Mowing the grass now, eh?
  4. His freaking retarded girlfriend.
  5. Her retarded quote, “That’s the life of a race car driver’s girlfriend.” Yeah, I bet.
  6. All the girls are ugly, I think. All the guys too, for that matter. Huh.
  7. The cops… If you watch nothing else, you should watch the parts with the cops. OMG. Dumb.
  8. “The air intake’s been modified.” Pointing to what’s probably a K&N filter. WOW. Yes, blonde cop. You are a genius. I’d never have guessed it wasn’t stock.
  9. The ugly blue and white CRX sporting the SCCA decal. Screw off, morons. The SCCA is one of the best things we’ve got in the States, no need to drag their name through the mud because you’re dumb.
  10. It’s funny because some people still think this way. And this shit’s old, for real.

So….

Funny? I think so. Definitely leaves me scratching my head. The guy supposedly put all this money into a shitty Integra, when he could have started with something way better.

Then again, so many people do this. Anyone who modifies a tiburon, I laugh at you. Just, really, buy a better car to start with.

Kinda sad how long it took me to come out and insult tiburons, isn’t it? I’ve told myself it’s okay to have an opinion. Don’t like it, don’t read this stuff… Nobody’s paying me to be nice. (You can start if you really want, I don’t mind.) Yes, that was totally off track, but whatever…

Basically, here’s my thoughts for this post: If you’re a street racer, YOU SUCK. The end.

Life now completely revolves around cars and she wouldn't have it any other way. CarsxGirl is her way to encourage others to get into racing (it's not horribly expensive!), to document & share her car builds, an outlet to share & improve her automotive photography skills and to show that real car girls do exist!

You could build up a Tiburon…just don’t fool yourself at too what you’re building it for!

  • N/Aontherun

Japan did have the 4 head light front end in 94(debut), but it was changed in 95(i think) due to the fact that it was unpopular. I like the USDM front end, I’ve grown tired of the JDM front(SOWWY!). Don’t get me wrong, the JDM front end is super sexy and clean, but I’m tired of seeing it.

LS/Vtec is the poor mans GSR B18C1. Back when that video was made the B18C1 was too much money which resulted in people making the LS/Vtec motors. I’ve been told that the LS/Vtec produces more torque then a B18C1, but I’m yet to see proof.(in before edit)

    His girlfriend… yea, she’s stupid.

The SCCA decal on the CRX made me cringe(i think that’s how you spell it)

I have no comments for cops in that video. They are bestt kept in my head (^__^)v

I like the video. It’s pretty entertaining and funny.

  • Meg

Did they? Didn’t know that, ha. I can see why the Japanese wouldn’t like it though… Clean lines always win there, and I like the style. I hardly EVER see it, so I can’t be sick of it! (Maybe I could be? Not sure.) I did used to LOVE the USDM front with the multiple lights though, so I don’t hate it per se… We’ll see how my front end conversion goes down, and then I might understand why they aren’t super common? Either way, if he’s claiming to be JDM he did it all sorts of wrong in my book.

Didn’t think about the price either, but the hubs told me about the internal work you need to do on the oil stuff for the LS/VTEC to actually, well, be good. No offense to anyone who’s got it, but I seriously doubt that dude knew what he was doing…. Did he not blow the head gasket in the show? (Don’t remember now, but yeah.) And the LS/VTEC responds better to the often ugly combo of VTEC&turbo.

Glad I’m not the only one who found it entertaining though! My husband thinks I’m crazy that I watch things like that or even have brief conversations with ricer kids, but they do entertain me… (And part of me wants to get the kids to see the light?)

The oil issue has been simplified now adays. When it first came out or started, you had to tap the head for an oil line and make a hole on the oil pan and ect. Now there is a company that makes a sandwich adapter that attaches inbetween the oil filter and block to feel oil thru a line to the head, but I believe you still have to tap the head for the oil. Project Car magazine covered it on…(runs over to the Project Car Magazine pile)

ok, Vol.11. Blox makes an LS/Vtec conversion kit, but I think there is a more reputable company that makes it too. Incredible 190WHP out of the LS/Vtec, but what I said earlier about the torque. It proved it incorrect, out of all the work hey did it only made 126 ft-lbs where the B18C1 makes 128 ft-lbs out the box.

  • Meg

Eh, it is what it is, right? Lol. Things get better as it goes on, naturally, and now some engines are more affordable than then and what not. (I mean, you could always stuff in a 1JZ or an LS1 these days, those go into anything and everything people stuff them in.)

Speaking of which, 1JZ Miata, anyone? I haven’t seen that….. Saw two LS1 swapped Miatas this past week though.

  • N/Aontherun

Can you tell I drive a subaru? LOL!

I’d like to see a 1JZ miata or an RB powered one(love the sound of an RB. I really have a thing for the 13B powered ones.

  • Meg

RB26DETT in my Miata? :D (I have a huge thing for the RB26DETT, lol. Huge. It might be unhealthy, even.)

  • N/Aontherun

What happened to that order of coments. Mine was suppose to be a reply to urs (@_@)<-confused

Why didn't you go for the RB26DETT for the 240? It takes more work, but the end results are insane(O_O)

  • Meg

Don’t ask me, I don’t get WP comments sometimes…. It does strange things every once in a while.

The “more work” part of it, LOL. That and tracking down a separate transmission (RB25) for it to remain RWD and a whole host of wiring stuff we were too scared to deal with. (We spent months trying to fix what essentially turned out to be two wires mixed up……)

I am, however, planning out my next project. She’ll be insane, and I hope to start looking for a chassis in the next year or two…. RB26DETT powered 240Z. ;)

  • John

Lol this is pretty funny. Rhd swaps are soo incredibly pointless. I can see why you would swap front ends but I would never switch from lhd to rhd or vice versa. I’ll just never understand it. Japan did get the quad headlight front-end though.

Theres a kid who always drive his “modded” (cold air intake) tiburon around my neighborhood with his windows down, one hand on top of the wheel, and one hand hanging out the window with a cigarette. Its so hard not to lol everytime he tries to “speed” by me. I found his myspace once, and found out he also “drifts” a civic on like 22′s. Heres the really sad part, I was riding my bike around once and actually saw his house, he has a perfectly good MR2 sitting in his yard. I figured maybe it just doesn’t run or something but I saw his mom driving it a few days later.

Street racers crack me up. I’ve asked people at my school why they race, and I think the funniest answer I’ve ever got is “For the cars, the money, and the women.” What on earth is that supposed to mean. This isn’t fast and the furious. I seriously doubt anyone (at least in my town) bets any money, let alone pink slips, let alone their girlfriends that they don’t have. They just press down the pedal in there parent’s automatic neon and hope someone else does the same. You kinda just have to laugh it off to keep from going crazy.

  • Meg

But not for long, apparently, though I’ve never claimed to be a Honda head either. ;) (I just have the tattoo and a deep respect for the company, lol. And access to the S2k!)

Wow…. That’s funny, haha. Kinda glad that kid doesn’t get the MR2, it’d be a shame to see anything bad happen to a good car!

And LOL at the kids who think street racing is “glamorous.” Uh, yeah…. No. Running from the cops and/or collecting tickets for pointless BS contests isn’t exactly glamorous. Then again, any real form of racing really isn’t… Because you work hard and make a ton of sacrifices to be able to do it, things these kids don’t get ha.

  • chacha1

LOL at least Tiburon is kind of a cool name. But really, if you’re going to name a car “shark,” it should at least try to look – and drive – like one, right?

I had a CRX for 14 years and Loved. It. Don’t be dissin on CRXs!

Foxie, I tracked you over here from a comment you made last year on GRS. Very entertaining and I can’t wait to see an update on the whole auto model thing. IMO? Personality goes a long way when you’re doing live work. And personality you got.

Right on re: street racers suck. Dangerous moronic Darwin Award candidates.

  • Meg

Haha, yeah!! At least Hyundai’s kinda trying these days….?

I have nothing but love for well done or even perfectly stock CRX’s. ;) It’s a shame that because they’re cheap kids can afford them, and kids can ruin cars like that. Pretty much why Honda has a bad reputation — they’ve been making great cars for so long, kids can afford the car and not much else for it that’s nice…. (Or so they think.)

Thanks! :P I always figured people on the finance side of things would be dismissive of me. I had a guy follow me to one of my blogs and try to chew me out for spending money on my cars… Without knowing anything else about how I go about things, ha. I’m glad when somebody can do that and get a kick out of what I do or have to say!
