Fun in Myrtle Beach, Pre-Miata

April 13th, 2010 · No Comments · Photos, Travel

As many of you know, the husband and I took off for my week of Spring Break to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the fourth annual Miatas at Myrtle Beach gathering. :)

Well, we decided that this year we’d make more of a vacation out of it than just a weekend-type thing, so we showed up a couple of days early… It was very nice!

It also meant…

That I have a few notable experiences to share that are non-Miata related. Car-related, of course! ;)

My Game

First off, it was a long drive…. But I spent most of it as the passenger. So, to keep myself entertained, I played my usual car-spotting game. I also on and off counted Corvettes… But I didn’t keep up well with that.

I didn’t really get any remarkable pictures on the drive, either. I took a couple to keep up with my 365 day photo project, but that was pretty much it. All of the really good cars, the few 911′s we saw and one rally-decked-out Mini standing out in my mind, were all going the other way. Figures. :(

A Dealership

On the Thursday of our trip, the event officially kicked off. However, most people were still making it in, so nothing was really scheduled. We took second place in the scavenger hunt, though! It was quite a bit of fun.

With some of our downtime, we made a stop at one of the local dealerships… To visit a very pretty 911 that we had been passing quite a few times on our runs around town. I was most curious to find out the specs, because we’ve been talking about buying a 996 911 in the coming years.

We all know what 911's look like, right? So I like highlighting their lovely details. :)

So imagine my pleasant surprise when we find out that the price of this pretty little 2001 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was under $30,000. :D Yeah, I did kinda want to take her home…. Three things stopped me: 1; the wheels were ack and would have to go, 2; I don’t want a Cabriolet and 3; the soft top needs to be replaced ASAP.

It was nice that the sales guy that came out to chat with us was actually quite nice, never acted like we couldn’t take the car home that day (we could, believe me, if we wanted bad enough) or were otherwise punks to get rid of. Oh, and he let me crawl all over the pretty girl to my heart’s content. :) Score!

Oh yeah, this is where it's at! :) Engine after 44k miles...

In fact, he was telling us how the guy who runs that particular dealership gets all sorts of enticing cars, apparently he likes rarer things and isn’t afraid of keeping something around for a bit. So this dealership may come in handy someday…

We made a contact, I like doing that, especially when we were treated like actual customers and people worthy to do business with. Goes a long ways with us. (The dealership we bought my Miata from also treated us very well, so I’ve referred some people their way with only good things to say.)

And For Dessert…

We did join our friends for dinner on Thursday night, and found this awesome surprise in the parking lot by the Miatas. Just sucked that it was dark and I didn’t get any super good pictures… I love this style of American Muscle tuning.

Mmm.... Delish. :P

And yes, she’s blue! It was only really obvious after I broke out the flash. None of the Miatas were tall enough to give me adequate lighting from the headlights, haha.

Stay Tuned…

Miata coverage is up next, but hopefully this was equally exciting. ;)

If you just can’t wait, want to see more pictures or otherwise poke around, I uploaded pics from the trip to this set on my Flickr.
