We’re Expecting

May 7th, 2010 · 8 Comments · Project EK Hatch

Yes, we’re expecting! Our family is pending growth. Not of the human variety either, rest assured of that. ;)

New Car Baby!

My husband has assured me that he’s made up his mind and has agreed to let me introduce what will be our next project!

We will be taking one like her…

A stock EK Hatchback...

And turning her into…

Something like her...

Or like her! But still different, because there's so much you can do to Civics...

Well, okay, my husband will be. And I’m going to be the coolest wife ever and document EVERYTHING that we do! I think I’ll make a scrapbook for her, too… I have one I made for the Miata and was going to start one for the 240SX, but I’m missing a LOT. (Well, I need to check and see, because maybe I could yet…)

Anyhow, I’m proud to introduce we will be starting on Project EK Hatch! :D

When’s the Due Date?

I’m not too sure yet. He’s been surfing craigslist and checking out to see what’s available. It won’t be until after we’re moved, which is only a few weeks away in and of itself!!!

I’d prefer to buy the hatch in Washington, not too far away, but I’m totally down for a trip to California to find the perfect, STOCK hatch to start with. :) (Well, some modification is okay…. But it’s a project, remember?)

Baby Will Grow…

And I will get to share it all here! I’ve said that about my RPS13, and that will still hold true. It’s just now to the point where she’s my FULL responsibility, so expect it to be some slow going, unless I break down and get another boring job. Considering I’m unemployed now and all. ;) (Freelance writer and photographer available here!! And right now I’m CHEAP, lol.)

That said, his income is, of course, unaffected. I also whole-heartedly support this, so he’s going to have a lot of leeway in getting parts… I’m excited. You see, my husband had an EG hatchback when we first got together. I wasn’t too fond of hatches back then, but she totally won my heart… She had a LOT of personality, and over 200,000 miles when we sold her. She’s still on the road.

My husband never got to build the Civic he knew he could, so I think part of him wants to finish up his vision of his ideal Civic. We’re also in a weird in-between car stage with our income… We can either do a project like this Civic and not skimp at all, or we can resolve to driving a stock 996 911 and having a car payment. The hubs still enjoys tinkering, so I’d rather see him get the Civic than the 911 or equivalent right now and be stuck in the same place he is with our S2000. (Frustrated because he can’t afford any parts he wants for her.)

The Documentation Starts…

Well, for all intensive purposes, now! I’ll be sharing details of our search for the perfect car and everything that goes with it. I plan on sharing every little part bought and how we go about it.

Part of this is because, well, anyone can afford to build a beautiful Civic. It won’t happen overnight, no, but the parts he’s scheming on buying are both cheap and good. I’m hoping to provide some inspiration for the kids who think ebay is the only cheap way to go. It’s not.

Hopefully she’ll even get her own time on the track, at least once! Because it’s fun for all cars. ;)

So stay tuned for this next adventure… It promises to be a fun one, despite the FWD! :P

Disclaimer: While I’m going to go ahead and introduce this project, I cannot guarantee in any way that this will actually happen…. There are a lot of factors that can sway it either way, most important being my husband isn’t sure if this is what he wants yet or not. The other leading rival? A WRX.

Meg

In 2007, Meg began learning about cars. She started racing autocross in 2009 and took the Rookie of the Year title with her '97 Miata. In 2012, she sold the Miata & a 240sx project car and began racing her S2000, while saving up for a Porsche 911. Life completely revolves around cars and she wouldn't have it any other way. CarsxGirl is her way to encourage others to get into racing (it's not horribly expensive!), to document & share her car builds, an outlet to share & improve her automotive photography skills and to show that real car girls do exist!
