We finally had a Friday without rain around here, hooray!
That meant that Spokane County Raceway‘s Friday Night Street Legal Drags went on without a hitch.
Interesting Cars
There’s quite the variety that shows up, apparently. Many are simply people out to have some fun racing, but there’s a few that use it as more of a testing ground than anything.
We got to meet the founder/owner of KaizenSpeed, a highly recommended shop in Eastern Washington. They were out running this Civic, which ran the 1/4 mile in less than 10 seconds:

She's loud and fast. And I *love* the use of purple!!
You’ll be hearing more about these guys later, though, since they’ll be fixing up my 240SX.
Social Event
More than anything, it seems to be a fairly social event. Yeah, there’s racing, but you spend so much time waiting in line that you spend most of it chit chatting with the various other attendees.
It’s still kinda funny how some people don’t even realize there’s an entire track there beyond the strip… Or realize there’s racing like autocross out there.
Either way, I’m not out to “convert” people from drag to autocross, because if that’s your thing I think you should go for it! But I love being able to open up possibilities to people when they didn’t realize they were even there.
At the end of the day, I had way more fun hanging out with some cool people than I thought I would ever have. It’s nice to know that there are still good people out there in the Honda crowd yet!
Pictures, Duh
Of course, I go for the pictures first. I ended up socializing more, but that was okay because it got dark pretty fast… Pictures don’t turn out so well when the light goes away.
I keep trying to capture more of the atmosphere than just the cars going down the strip. Being around them while they’re lining up lets me do this in a way that’s different than the usual pictures that show up from this sort of racing.
A few people seem to think I’ll be able to sell the photos I take. I’m hoping they’re right!

Only cars like this can pull off flames so well, no?

In keeping with the flames motif, here's a Camaro with ghost flames.

We spent some time talking to the owner of this black S2000, who's supercharged. The Grand National was faster, though.

All that waiting... Interesting perspectives though, don't you think? I like the old mixed in with the new here.

The sunsets around here are quite stunning, and the backdrop it provided here is rather nice.

Just a random thought, but… I’ve seen lots of HDR revolving around urban decay, but I wonder how it’d look in this sort of context. A little post processing could really make these colorful cars POP! Not that I have any idea how people do that
That’s an idea… For one, I’d definitely need Photoshop (not that I don’t already, lol) and second, HDR’s are created as layers of multiple different photos, so I’d be taking a LOT more pictures… Again, not that I shouldn’t be doing that already haha.
Maybe, when I can finally get my stuff together and get Photoshop, I’ll play around and see what I can turn up. Never hurts to play!
GNX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is all.
