Vintage Racing Weekend, Day 1

June 21st, 2011 · No Comments · Car Event, Photos, Porsche

June 4th & 5th were some exciting days for me — I got to spend more time out at the inaugural Spokane Festival of Speed than I thought I would!

I was super, super excited that the vintage races that SOVREN puts on every year were coming to Spokane County Raceway — a nice track that’s literally fifteen minutes from where I live. I knew from the second I learned of it that I *had* to get out there to check it out!

Lucky for me, work cooperated, allowing me to spend more time out at the track that I imagined I could! Definitely glad for some slow days every once in a while, haha.

Seeing as how I took a bunch of photos, I figured I’d split them into the two days and share my favorites. :)

Day One (Saturday)

Saturday was lucky for me — turns out my friends from the Porsche Club were there! I knew the Porsche Club was there but I wasn’t sure if I’d recognize anyone. :P (I’m really bad with people sometimes…. Heh.)

It was exciting to meet new people and then get a real treat — a ride along during the parade laps on the track! I got to go along with one of the great Porsche guys in his Boxster — Definitely a highlight of the day!

Nobody can knock Boxsters, I already felt this way and the ride showed me how right I was — the car really felt like she was on rails. She stuck very well and only got squirrelly once. He was driving pretty spirited. ;) Not only was listening to the Boxster fantastic with the top down, but we were behind a 1987 911 Turbo, which was also quite beautiful to listen to.

The rest of the day I spent hanging out, talking cars and taking plenty of photos. Oh, and very much so enjoying the first absolutely gorgeous weekend we’ve had!

Photo Favorites

This gorgeous cream GT3 was the first car I noticed. Turns out she's a track toy -- ~5,000 hard track miles and less than 500 road miles. Now that's how it should be!

While I'm not a huge fan of the Spiders, this F430 was a treat to see.

One of the best sounding V8's in the world I think...

There was also this pretty Testarossa in attendance, with her amazing Flat 12...

I attempted to take photos during my Boxster ride along, and got this one. Not the best, but I like the feeling it creates. (I was having a hard time focusing on photos, I was smiling waaaaaaaaay too much...)

You can tell the race cars were out on the track doing their thing, just look at what the Boxster's tire managed to pick up!

This Lotus Esprit was hanging out in the pit area. Definitely not a car I see very often.

I have a soft spot for race cars, but even more of a soft spot for vintage race cars...

This 911 was so pretty, fully prepped for track racing. My kind of trailer queen!

I'm already a huge sucker for this style of Z28 Camaro, but track prepped?! Yes, please!!!!

Another pretty Ferrari!

I couldn't remember if this was my first time seeing a Tesla Roadster or not.... Either way I liked the plate!

And how could I not love this little girl?! Mini Cooper S, RHD and everything. Loved his "Actual Size" sticker on the window... Haha!
