Spring Social — Porsches & Pretty Boats

June 18th, 2012 · No Comments · Car Event, Driving, inspiration, Porsche

Every once in a while I get to go to a fabulous event and feel like a swanky socialite. Like most girls, I love a good excuse to don a cute dress & heels and have a good time!

This year, it seems like it’s happening somewhat regularly, almost. In February, there was the launch party for the Porsche 991 911. This time, on May 19th, it was a Spring Social event hosted by Stancraft, a maker of hand-crafted wooden boats, presented along with the Porsche dealership. An evening with Porsches and gorgeous boats? Yes, sign me up!!

Since we didn’t exactly know where we were going, we decided to tag along with the little group of Porsches that were leaving the dealership to be put on display alongside the boats. We figured that, if nothing else, we wouldn’t get lost, would be in good company showing up and could help out if they needed anything.

Not one to under-dress for an occasion, I decided on my favorite (and only) little black dress and my wedge booties. You know, just in case I had to drive a car. I figured the wedges would be my best bet, plus they’re the comfiest to stand in and walk around in for a few hours at a time. Before we left, I figured why not take a photo with my favorite car at the dealership — the Guards Red 1986 Carrera that keeps tempting me.

As fate would have it, though, I found out that I can drive in my booties! I was offered a ride in the 997 911 that would be heading over for display, but was shocked when I was offered the driver’s seat!! There was no room for doubt — it was sink or swim driving! She’s a 2007 Carrera, six speed manual and just a hair under 20,000 miles… I don’t look half bad driving her, if I do say so myself. ;)

My husband decided to go ahead and ride with me in the 911, while our super awesome friend from the dealership drove our STi over for us instead. He always commented about how he liked her, so I figured it was the nice thing to do — after all, he did hand me the key to the 997! Thankfully he enjoyed driving the STi, I loved the 997, my husband enjoyed the ride and all were happy.

The only photo I have of a car at the event and the boats — My pretty fantastic park job. :P

And, as if that wasn’t the best thing ever, there was AMAZING food and wine! Yeah, pretty much heaven….

All in all, I had a great time looking at the boats and chatting with friends, enjoying all the food and a few glasses of wine and knowing that I got to drive yet another 911…. I love them so much, I can’t even find the right words to explain it, haha.

I know the fun isn’t over yet, either, this year — there’s that new Boxster to look forward to…. I heard she’s going to have her own party as well. :D
