Tiny Bimmer Woes

September 25th, 2012 · No Comments · BMW, My Cars, Photos

This last week, my bimmer has been putting me through a test, apparently. One night, when driving home, the radiator fans ran the entire way and the oil temperature gauge never showed a temperature increase. Weird, right?

I mean, I’m used to the idea of engines running hot… But cold? Something wasn’t right, not majorly wrong, but not right…. I suspected the thermostat, but didn’t have anything else to explain what I was experiencing.

So we went into service to be checked out. Nothing came back as wrong. Frustrated, but hopeful it was an isolated incident, I figured I’d just keep an eye on her….

Then she gave me the lovely BMW “Service Engine Soon” light. Another call, another trip to service…. This time, an answer. She ended up having some issue in her fuel system in regards to fuel pressure (one of the pumps/motors had a pressure leak) and, my vindication, the coolant temperature sensor was acting out of sorts.

Unfortunately for me, on top of the crazy day that turned out to be Friday, she wasn’t quite done before I had to go to work. After a near melt-down and a refusal to be dependent on my friend for any longer than the few hours I already had been, I was granted the key to a 2009 135i for the time being….

I got to pick up my baby the next morning, and later this week we go back in to have the temperature sensor replaced as it had to be ordered. I’m super happy to have her back now and that she’ll be fixed completely later this week.

Despite the woes I was having, the 135i was a little gem to drive. :) She was a tiny bright spot in a situation that was beginning to overwhelm me. I can’t thank the dealership here enough for taking care of my baby & me, from the parts discount, to the service discount & the loaner car for a night, I felt very well taken care of. It means a lot to me, especially now when I have to try and make it all work by myself….

At the end of the day, I still love my 335xi to death and happy she’s back to feeling better. So far, BMW ownership hasn’t been bad….. Even in the not fun moments. :)
