After the KW V3 install naturally came an alignment, and the perfect reason to visit a local shop that’s come highly recommended by friends of ours. With the following photos, I don’t think it’s hard to see why….
I personally love garages and workshops — I love the way they smell, the usual organized chaos that typically defines them and how there are almost always cool cars and things around to see. Now, many places won’t let customers in these areas — usually as a safety thing, which is understandable. But if I can stay with my car, I just feel better… And they let us do that here. Hell, they told us to check the place out!!
So check out we did. There were some familiar cars, too….
Like this 911 GT3 Cup Car. She was at the Auto Boat Speed show this year, and part of the same GrandAm team that this girl is on. (Little blurry, I know. :()
This NSX was the one out at the track day on Friday, still dirty from when she went on an agricultural excursion…. (Though it was more gravel than grass.)
I did a bit of drooling over this M5 race car, and of course love, love, love the 2002! There are a pair of Chump Cars in the background.
Another familiar face from Friday, this Boss 302S Mustang was sitting on the dyno when we got there. She’s #25 of what will only be 50 Boss 302s produced and sold this way by Ford — she’s a straight race car from the factory.
Of course I giggled when I say this frog-eyed Austin-Healey Sprite. So tiny… And RHD.
This Camaro SS was having quite a bit of work done. She’s also what I would love to have someday — complete with twin turbo setup, modern disc brakes and a full suspension…. Very resto-mod. Love.
But then it was time to get my S2000 up on the lift!
First up was the installation of the new adjustable rear ball joints.
Then the actual alignment! She was previously running only -1 degree of camber in the rear, due to some issue somewhere in the subframe that we could never find…. We were hoping that these adjustable ball joints would give us enough compensation to get an actual proper alignment on her, and they did!!! Hooray!!!
She’s currently running -2.3 degrees of camber in the rear and -1.5 in the front. I think she tucks the rear tires nicely now, especially with her lowered a bit…
Of course, this is just the starting point. Depending on how she reacts and how the tires perform, she can easily get more camber in the rear. Honestly, I’m ecstatic that she managed to get to -2.3 in the rear, and she feels so much better because of it!
I was very glad that the autocross was less than a week away. I wasn’t sure how much patience I could have had otherwise to see how this new set up did!
I also think we’ll be seeing a fair bit of this shop…. I’ve wanted to get a nice roll bar for the S2000 for quite some time and think having them do it would be great. We’ll also go to them for alignments for the STi, and if we need to mess with the S2000’s new track setup.
Really, I think every car enthusiast needs a great place they can trust…. And I’m really happy to find a place that fits that bill perfectly!
