In 2010, starting January 1st and ending December 31st, I will take one picture and post that picture every day, in an effort to learn my new dSLR and take better pictures.
I want to focus these pictures on mostly cars, because automotive photography is where my passion in photography lies.
What this is going to be:
- One picture taken & posted every day in 2010, using my Nikon D3000.
- While my intention is to focus on cars, I make no promises that it will be exclusively about cars. Will be trying my best though.
- An ambitious project that’ll hopefully help me to learn my SLR’s functions better and make me a better photographer in the end.
- Something that’ll force me to figure out how to efficiently pack my camera to bring it everywhere. I don’t want to use my P&S Canon iPhone at all, unless I find something super cool and can’t get to my SLR.
What it is not:
- An intensely structured project. If I use my P&S iPhone, I use it. Important thing is to do it every day.
- Something I’m going to give up on. I’m not the only one out there doing it, and if other people can do it, so can I! Watch me.
Where the pics will be:
The pictures will all be posted to my Flickr account, since putting them on this blog or creating a new blog for them would be a bit intense for me right now.
I’ve created the new set, which you can find here. Let’s hope I keep this up!
Updates:
Just going to use this part to post any news or updates as I see fit. I’m quite sure things will change and plans will adapt, so this will be kept up-to-date as far as those things go.
1/1/10 — Happy new year! The Flickr set has been created, linked to above. Enjoy!
1/4/10 — If you’d like, you may subscribe to the RSS feed of my project from Flickr here, for your convenience.
1/31/10 — Good-bye January, hello February!! Month one was a huge success for me, one picture was taken & posted for each day, and all were car-related. If forming a habit takes 28 days, I think it’s a habit to think of one car picture to take and upload that pic. (Funny enough, it feels strange if I wait too long to do this, so that’s good I hope!)
3/2/10 — I mean, like woah here!! Two months down, ten more to go. So far, so good! I’m definitely enjoying this.
4/29/10 — Just updating to say all is going well! I’m planning to turn my first project here into a photo book at the end… Hopefully it won’t cost me too much, haha. Will be fun to see my improvements!
5/31/10 — I was worried about the move messing with this project, but I managed to clear the hurtle!
Moving in on the half-way point in the next month!
6/2/10 — I feel compelled to point out that I left myself very lenient conditions for this project. I originally feared that my D3000 would seem too bulky to carry very often, but once I got used to bringing it with me nearly everywhere, it doesn’t seem so bad. My recommendation: a good camera bag is a MUST!! Especially when you start adding gear… (I just hardly ever bring my tripod unless I know I’ll be shooting a lot.)
7/19/10 — In the last few days, I really struggled with the project overall. It’s hard to take pictures of cars when you don’t see them around! (On vacation, ha.) So I decided that so much of my life relates to cars, that nearly no matter what I do it’s car-related. It’s been hard to want to take pictures knowing they have to fit in a certain way. So I decided to open it up and let anything go now. I’d rather document all the changes in my life and all that’s going on now rather than picking one thing. Basically, I have a lot of changes I’ll make for next year!! (Though I’ll finish up this year with my nearly half-half thing.)

Hey Megan! I got a D3000 recently too!
Awesome! I love mine… Hehe.
Just trying to figure out what lens I want to get next. (Either zoom or macro, I’m not sure which.)

Megan, you have some really cool photos. We’ll have to talk about the camera, for I have a Nikon D70. You are inspiring me to get it out and not always take the little coolpix for outings. Love Ya.
